Otello Stampacchia PhD, Partner
Otello Stampacchia, PhD was associated with Omega Funds since 2004. Previously, Otello was in charge of life sciences direct investments at Alpinvest Partners, one of the largest private equity asset managers worldwide. At AlpInvest, Otello was responsible for the direct life sciences investments, as well as assisting in due diligence for healthcare venture fund of funds investments. Before Alpinvest, Otello was the portfolio manager of the Lombard Odier Immunology Fund, a USD $3bn listed investment vehicle, investing in public and private healthcare companies worldwide. Previously, Otello was a member of the HealthCare corporate finance and M&A team at Goldman Sachs (London and NY offices). Before joining Goldman, Otello helped co-found the healthcare investment activities at Index Securities (now Index Ventures). Otello has a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Geneva (Switzerland), and a PhD in Biotechnology.
Renee Aguiar-Lucander, Partner (London)
Renee Aguiar-Lucander joined Omega Funds after serving as a Partner in the venture capital group of 3i Group Plc in London where she since 2005 was responsible for managing their publicly quoted assets and the European legacy healthcare portfolio. In addition, Renee structured and executed several secondary sale processes whilst at 3i. Prior to joining 3i she was a Managing Director in Investment Banking at Lehman Brothers, with a focus on Business Media & Internet. Renee has over 12 years of corporate finance experience with firms such as BT Alex Brown, Deutsche Bank and Lehman Brothers, where she focused on raising M&A and private/public capital for growth companies in both Europe and the US. Prior to Investment Banking, Renee worked for 5 years in European sales & marketing for a financial services focused software business. Renee has a BA in finance from Stockholm School of Economics and a MBA from INSEAD. She has significant board experience from both private and public board work and is presently a board member of Sophion Bioscience A/S, NsGene A/S, ImpactRx Inc and Newron Pharmaceuticals SpA.
Richard Lim, Partner (Boston)
Richard Lim joined Omega Funds after over 16 years in principal investment and strategic consulting, all within life science and healthcare. He was previously a General Partner at MVM Life Science Partners, a life science focused venture capital firm with $500 million under management; he founded MVM’s US investment operations. He was previously a Vice President at Saunders, Karp & Megrue (SKM), a private equity firm with $1.7bn under management, where he specialized in healthcare growth capital and leveraged transactions. Prior to SKM (now known as Apax Partners Inc.), Richard was a Manager at LEK Consulting, providing strategic advice to life science companies; he consulted for more than 3 dozen small and large biotechnology firms. He was also an Associate with M&A investment bank BT Wolfensohn. He has served on a number of boards in biotechnology, specialty pharmaceuticals, and medical device companies. He serves on the advisory boards of the Deshpande Center at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He earned AB and MBA degrees from Harvard University. He is currently board member of Hydrocision and board observer of Biovex.
Anne-Mari Paster, Chief Financial Officer (Boston)
Anne-Mari Paster, Chief Financial Officer, joined Omega Funds after 17 years in healthcare principal investment. Most recently, she was a Partner and Chief Financial Officer at Third Rock Ventures (TRV). TRV is a venture firm focused on life sciences investing. She joined TRV to establish its operations and assisted the firm in successfully raising its inaugural fund of $378 million in 2007. She managed all fund, company and portfolio operations as well as investor relations. Prior to TRV, Anne-Mari served as CFO of MPM Capital, a leading biotech venture capital firm with 4 funds and over $2.3bn under management. During her 14-year tenure with MPM, she was responsible for financial management of MPM’s venture funds and other entities, financial reporting, building and oversight of all back office operations, investor relations and office administration. She was also a Founder and CFO of APS Material Services. Anne-Mari received her B.S. in engineering at the Turku Institute of Technology in Finland and has completed advanced studies in corporate finance through Boston University.
